Near Infrared Autofluorescence Image-Guided Parathyroid Gland Navigation in Thyroidectomy

Kang-Dae Lee
Department of Otolaryngology-HN Surgery, Kosin University, Busan, South Korea

Studies to date have shown that near-infrared (NIR) autofluorescence imaging can detect the parathyroid glands during thyroidectomy. However, there is are no reports that the NIR imaging can identify the parathyroid gland when covered with fibrofatty tissue before identification by the a surgeon's naked eye. In this study, we investigated the feasibility of ‘parathyroid gland mapping’ to facilitate early identification of the parathyroid gland during thyroidectomy.
